International Harp Therapy Program - Frequently Asked Questions
What does the program cost?
The tuition is $1,650 USD per module and must be paid in full in advance of attending the module unless you have set up a payment plan in advance. CONTACT In addition to tuition, you are required to purchase the video teaching series “Creative Harping” and a number of books. Travel, room and board are at your expense.
Do I have to travel to take this course?
The program is set up so that most of the work can be done at home and online. We usually have a 4 day Introductory Module 1 class followed by a couple of weekends of checking in and having access to outstanding music teachers and special guest speakers. The schedule will be sent to you at least a month in advance and usually falls on a Saturday morning when there are special offerings.
The second portion of the program on how to identify a person's resonant tone and then how to implement the 5 elements into balancing energy is an attendance program of 5 1/2 days. We believe that the most profound learning and experiences take place when we are physically together. We have returned to our physical classrooms in addition to now offering our Module 1 virtual classroom.
Do I need to travel to complete my internship?
Generally students arrange an internship in a facility near to their home location. Often these internships result in job opportunities. There are some opportunities to do mentored internship hours with certified therapeutic harp practitioners. This provides a great start for the student, particularly if the facility where they will complete their hours has never had a therapeutic musician. Check our Schedule page for any such opportunities.
How long do I have to complete the program?
Our learning contracts with each student are designed to assist you in completing the program in 2 1/2 years. We offer extensions for those who are working on their musicality, but we expect the academic portal to be done within that time frame unless there is a medical reason to postpone and re-enter later.
What does my Mentor do for me?
Your mentor receives and reviews your submitted course work. This includes listening to and evaluating your music recordings, reading and commenting on your papers and book reviews. The mentor is also a person who cares about your progress and helps keep you moving forward in a timely basis. From your tuition, a mentor is paid to work with you for 15 hours. (7.5 for Other Program Graduates (OPG's) If additional time is needed or desired by you, you may contract with your mentor to pay directly to the mentor for additional time. The current rate of pay for the mentor is $30/hour USD.
I’m new to the harp. Can I join the program and learn along the way?
If you are very new to the harp, you may wish to spend a while developing your technical skills and doing some music development. A prep program is available through Tutorials by Christina Tourin. However, we like having beginner's who know some basics about the harp as they are usually the ones who excel in improvisation which is the foundation of our work.
